Hotfix resin rhinestones (топло лепене — toplo lepene, literally "hot bonding") are flat-back faceted resin crystal rhinestone elements with a thermoplastic hot-melt adhesive pre-applied to the flat back. At room temperature the adhesive is solid and inactive — the rhinestone can be handled, sorted, and positioned freely. When heat is applied from above using a hotfix applicator wand (a pen-shaped tool with a heated tip sized to the rhinestone diameter) or a household iron with a pressing cloth, the thermoplastic adhesive melts and flows into the fabric fibres, then re-solidifies as it cools, creating a strong, permanent bond between the rhinestone and the fabric surface. The hotfix method is significantly faster than sewing individual rhinestones by hand and more durable than pressure-sensitive adhesive — the heat-activated bond penetrates the fabric fibres and cannot be peeled off without damaging the fabric.
