What are crimp tubes and tube beads?

Metal tubes (тръбички — trabichki) in the jewellery findings context refer to two distinct products that share the cylindrical tube form. Crimp tubes (кримп тръбичка — krimp trabichka) are very small metal tubes — typically 1–3mm in length and 1–2mm in internal diameter — used specifically to secure beading wire at the end of a strand. To use a crimp tube: thread the beading wire through the crimp tube, then through the clasp ring or jump ring, then back through the crimp tube to form a small loop; use crimping pliers to press the tube flat (or into a folded crimped shape with a two-step crimping tool), permanently fixing the wire in place. The flattened crimp tube grips the doubled wire inside it and cannot be removed without cutting — it is the standard, professional, and permanent method for finishing beading wire jewellery. Crimp tubes are sold in bulk because one is needed at each end of every beading wire strand. Metal tube beads (тръбичка мъниста — trabichka manista) are longer decorative cylindrical metal beads — from 5mm to 20mm or more in length — strung between other beads as linear spacers; their elongated tube form adds strand length and a structured metallic linear element at each tube position.

When are crimp tubes used and why are they important?

Crimp tubes are the standard finishing finding for any jewellery strand made on beading wire (бижутерска тел — bizhuterska tel) — the coated multi-strand steel wire used for stringing heavier beads such as stone, glass, and metal. Unlike thread-based stringing where a knot can be tied and hidden inside a calotte, beading wire cannot be knotted effectively — a knot in beading wire slips under tension. The crimp tube replaces the knot: it provides the mechanical grip that holds the wire loop to the clasp, and it does so permanently and securely. Without a crimp tube, a beading wire bracelet or necklace has no reliable way to attach its clasp. For tools to press crimp tubes, crimping pliers are the recommended tool — flat-nose pliers can flatten a crimp but a crimping tool produces a neater, stronger, folded crimp. Bijuland stocks jewellery tools in the Tools section. Bijuland ships from Plovdiv, Bulgaria and supplies jewellery makers, craft studios, and bead resellers across Bulgaria and Europe.
